What is CQ?

Cultural Intelligence (CQ)

is defined as the ability to be effective in culturally diverse situations. This includes, across and within borders, as well as across genders and organizations.

We live in an increasingly diverse world, with people from different ethnic backgrounds, generations and global experiences. People are at the core of all organizations and have a very direct impact on the success of that organization. People are different in their approaches to communicating, interacting, collaborating, learning, making decisions, and negotiating. These differences are based on cultural values that drive behavior, and the significance is in understanding how to leverage these diverse approaches in order for people to feel included and valued in your organization.

CQ matters when:

  • Working Globally

  • Navigating Organizational Culture

  • Appreciating Generational Differences

  • Improving Community Relations

Through Assessment, Development and Training one can improve their CQ and research has proven that High CQ Leaders and Teams are more successful!

If you hire just for diversity, but CQ is low, inclusion and belonging suffer and you will not achieve the results you desire!

CQ Assessment

The CQ Assessment identifies your Cultural Values and measures your Capabilities to work effectively across cultures.

Your cultural values are personal preferences for how you prefer to work and live. They form the basis for your behavior.  When stressed, cultural values are a safety net to which you cling more closely, making you less aware of others needs. Under these circumstances, your Emotional Intelligence (EQ) may be compromised, making you less collaborative.

CQ identifies an individuals’ Cultural Values which reveals their general approach to life, work, and relationships and potential biases. However, cultural values do NOT predict your ability to work effectively across cultures, that requires CQ capabilities.

CQ Capabilities are skills required to be effective across cultures. We measure Drive, Knowledge, Strategy and Action and customize learning programs to improve these skills for individuals and teams.

The Impact

What all organizations have in common is the need for results.

When integrated with leadership programs, DE&I strategies, M&A culture integration, new hire orientations, and high potential programs, the CQ work results in improvements in several key areas of effectiveness:
